The Oxford Union

The Oxford Union Society offers debates, speaker events, social activities, and facilities for members of the University of Oxford.

Founded in 1823, The Oxford Union Society is an independent student debating society whose membership is drawn mainly from the University of Oxford.

It programmes formal motion debates, single-speaker addresses, panel sessions and competitive debating coaching—fielding teams for international university championships—alongside concerts, social events, termly balls, and corporate hospitality.

Events

Membership

Membership classes include life, long-term, temporary (course-length, termly, visiting), and residential membership. Primary eligibility is for matriculated University of Oxford students, with provisions for certain partner institutions, Oxford Brookes students, and approved Oxford residents.
