About
Mory's (Mory's Temple Bar) is a private membership club adjacent to Yale University that preserves long-standing Yale social and musical traditions while providing dining, event, and social space for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and affiliated New Haven community members. More details can be found on their official site.
History
Founded in the mid-19th century (origin traced to 1849), Mory's became a private Yale-oriented club after relocation to 306 York Street in 1912. The building is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places (added January 25, 2005). The club closed in December 2008 during financial difficulties, underwent a major renovation, and reopened in August 2010. Mory's is associated with several Yale traditions and has counted many notable public figures among those who dined there. More information is available on their website.
Membership
Membership categories and fees (per official application) include: Student members: one-time $15 (valid until graduation); Junior members (within five years of graduation): $30 annually; Yale staff and Yale New Haven Health staff: $25 annually; Resident alumni/parents (within 30 miles): $99 annual dues; Non-resident alumni/parents (over 30 miles): $49 annual dues. Community memberships are considered case-by-case and may require a sponsoring member. Applications typically take 10–14 business days to process. For further details, visit the membership page.
Eligibility
Membership is open to current Yale students (College, graduate and professional schools), Yale alumni, Yale faculty and staff, Yale New Haven Health staff, and parents of current Yale students. Community membership is available on a case-by-case basis and requires written sponsorship by a current Mory's member. More information can be found here.
Member Experience
Members may use the club's dining and banquet facilities, reserve private rooms for events, attend club events, and bring non-member guests. Members regularly experience Yale traditions (e.g., weekly a cappella performances and the ritual 'Cups'), and there is no minimum annual spending requirement posted. Additional details are available on the member experience page.
Facilities
Facilities include the Main Dining Room (seating up to ~100), Louis' Lounge (bar/gathering space), the Temple Bar and outdoor Rose Garden patio (bar and reception space), and several second-floor private rooms (Cup Room, Library, Presidents' Room, Captains' Room, Governors' Room) used for meetings and private events.
