About
The Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania, originally founded in 1924 as the Derwent Motor Boat Club, was renamed in the 1920s. The Lindisfarne clubhouse opened in 1974, and the historic Governor’s Launch M.L. Egeria, built in 1941, was acquired and restored by the club, serving as both flagship and charter vessel. The club will celebrate its centenary in 2024.
The primary activity of the club includes motor yachting, powerboat racing, cruising, and social recreational boating. It operates a marina and fuel wharf, runs on-water events and charters, and provides clubhouse dining, functions, and member services. More information can be found on the club's website.
Accommodation
The clubhouse features the Reflections restaurant, bar, and café, which offers a function room available for hire. The club operates charter cruises on the historic M.L. Egeria, providing lunch and dinner options with varying capacities. Detailed information about dining and function options can be accessed on the club's site.
Facilities
The club offers various facilities, including two slipways available to members, with the larger slip accommodating vessels up to 15 tonnes. There are hardstand and cage storage options, and marina utilities have been upgraded to include water and power. External marine services and mooring maintenance contractors operate from the site. More details about these facilities can be found on the marina memberships page.
Located at the entrance to Lindisfarne Bay, the club features a large floating marina with approximately 150 berths, offering moorings, dinghy storage, cages, hardstand, and a fuel wharf supplying diesel and unleaded fuel, available to both members and non-members.
The clubhouse includes the Reflections restaurant, bar, and café with waterfront views, an enclosed deck for dining, and a function room suitable for weddings and corporate events. The Lindisfarne RSL Sub-Branch is based at the club, which also has regular dining hours and member discounts.
Training and Racing
The club hosts and coordinates on-water activities in partnership with the Australian Powerboat Association, which runs a racing calendar in conjunction with the club. The Derwent Storms Dragon Boat Club provides accredited coaching and training. Historically, the club has also conducted safety training and collaborates with volunteer safety providers for on-water event safety and support. More information can be found on the training page.
Active powerboat racing occurs from November to April, with events such as Granton Club Day and the MYCT Grand/Aussie Championships. The club maintains an annual race calendar available on its website.
Cruising and Social Activities
The club has a long history of social cruising, including D’Entrecasteaux Channel cruises, and offers charter cruises aboard the restored M.L. Egeria. Information about these cruises, including package and pricing details, can be found on the club's history page.
There is an active social calendar with weekday dining, Sunday lunches, and regular functions and events. The clubhouse can accommodate large functions, and the club engages with the community through Egeria charters and partnerships. Membership has grown significantly in recent years.
Dress Code
Dress standards apply within the clubhouse. Tank tops, caps, and hats are not permitted at any time, as outlined in the Reflections/Bar & Cafe guidance.
Seasonal Operations
The powerboat racing season typically runs from November to April. The marina, slipway, and clubhouse dining and functions operate year-round, with regular dining hours published on the club's website.
