Club Canottieri Roggero Di Lauria

History

Club Canottieri Roggero di Lauria traces its origins to the Club Nautico Palermo (founded 1899) and was renamed Real Club Nautico Roggero di Loria in 1902. From 1906, it became Reale Società Canottieri Roggero di Lauria. The Club’s Villa (Villa Lauria) has served as the institutional seat since 1964 and has a long tradition in rowing and other nautical sports in Mondello, Palermo.

Social Activities

The Club runs an active social and cultural programme, which includes conferences, book presentations, film and cultural evenings, regular social dinners, and club events. Additionally, it organizes excursions such as the SiamoPod whale-watching outings and seasonal member-focused activities. A news and events calendar is published on the Club site.

Recreational Amenities

Villa Lauria features salotti and a library, a multifunctional hall for meetings and small events, and a garden terrace used for summer dining. The Club also has a small equipped beach with a bar adjacent to the nautical headquarters, hangars for boat storage, and a large bar/tavola calda in the Sede Nautica. Sport Facilities

The Club offers nautical facilities for sailing, windsurfing, rowing (including coastal rowing), swimming, and triathlon activities. It has a summer nautical headquarters with changing rooms, showers, and a boat hangar, as well as a training base at the Port of Palermo with a launching pontoon. Organized sports sections and seasonal courses are available for various activities, including Vela, Windsurf, Canottaggio, Nuoto, and Triathlon.

Fitness Centers

A dedicated gym located in Addaura is primarily used by the competitive rowing squad. It is equipped with indoor rowing ergometers and specific training equipment for rowing preparation.

Dining Experiences

The Club features two main dining venues for members: the Villa Lauria restaurant, which requires reservations for evening service, and the Sede Nautica restaurant/bar/tavola calda, which serves lunch and dinner. Both venues are reserved for members, who may invite guests under the Club rules. Reservations are required, and the site publishes current menus and set prices. The Villa enforces a dress standard, prohibiting access with shorts.

Event Spaces

A multifunctional room in Villa Lauria is available for small conferences and events, along with several salotti and a library. The external terrace and garden are used for social dining and gatherings, while the nautical hall and terrace at the Sede Nautica are suitable for seaside events. Family and Children

The Club offers family- and child-focused programs, including a summer 'Tempo d’Estate' program for children aged 4 to 12, which features sports activities and sailing/rowing/swimming instruction. There is also a youth rowing school for ages 9 to 18 and weekend/seasonal youth courses. Sunday lunches at Villa allow the presence of children under specific rules. The Statuto provides for the admission of minors as Frequentatori, with automatic conversion to Socio Ordinario upon reaching majority.

Youth Programs

Structured youth courses include Scuola Vela, Scuola Windsurf (Kids Week), Scuola di Canottaggio e Coastal Rowing, and Scuola di Nuoto for children. An altura (offshore) sailing school is also available. Weekly and seasonal course schedules and fees are published on the Club site, and enrollment is managed through the Club’s sport office.

Seasonal Events

The Club organizes and co-hosts regattas and seasonal regatta series, including participation in La Rotta dei Florio and other local regatta calendar items. Annual summer programming includes school courses and the Tempo d’Estate initiative. The site publishes a regatta calendar, event notices, and results.

Access Policies

Use of Club premises and equipment is reserved for Soci and Frequentatori in good standing with payment of social dues. Access rules and sectoral regulations are published, including obligations for payment, responsibility for damages, and requirements for medical certification for sporting activities. Reservation systems for the Sede Nautica in summer are managed via the Club App.

Community Engagement

The Club collaborates with local schools and organizations for youth programming, such as the Tempo d’Estate program in collaboration with Scuola Thomas More. It also runs public-facing excursions and participates in wider sailing and regatta initiatives that involve the local community and partner clubs. Cultural events and conferences are open to members and invited guests.

Membership Joining

Admission to the Club is by application as a Socio or as a Frequentatore, following the Statuto. Candidates must meet statutory requirements and are admitted by the competent bodies. The Assembly sets the admission fee and annual quota, and athletes must register annually and provide required medical certification for sports activities. Guest Access

Guest access is regulated; each Socio may invite up to two guests for restaurant services, with authorization by the President or Deputy possibly required. Children are admitted at specified services. Guests and visiting members from affiliated clubs can use facilities under reciprocity rules, and any damage caused by a guest is charged to the hosting Socio. Reservations for dining are required.

Affiliations

The Club maintains reciprocity agreements with other Italian clubs, including historic agreements with Club Nautico Rimini and Circolo Antico Tiro a Volo dei Parioli. It also participates in collaborative regatta initiatives.
